A photographic zine observing how people inhabit, shape and negotiate urban space and what these everyday spaces reveal about belonging and collective life.
STADT (2016) approaches the city through observation. Rather than presenting a comprehensive analysis of urban transformation, it collects fragments of everyday life, spaces and traces that reveal how a city is inhabited and shaped.
The photographs pay attention to questions of access, belonging and social space, including the effects of increasingly unaffordable housing. The city becomes a social landscape in which different interests, forms of use and ways of living overlap.
Drawing on an observational approach STADT uses photography not only to document urban space, but to ask what can be learned by looking closely at how people and environments relate to one another.
The zine turns these observations into a material and visual form leaving room for ambiguity, interpretation and the viewer’s own perspective.
