Lost Futures investigates the cultural and political function of imagined futures. It asks how scenarios about technological and social change shape our understanding of what is possible, desirable and credible.
The project emerged from research into AI ethics and feminist ethics of technology and examines the assumptions embedded in dominant future narratives.
Questions of agency, knowledge, legitimacy and participation become central:
Who is imagined as an actor in the future?
Whose knowledge counts?
Which possibilities remain outside the frame?
Critical futures research provides the methodological foundation for this exploration. Speculative scenarios and narrative formats are used not to predict what comes next, but to make the assumptions of the present visible.
Lost Futures understands the future as a contested cultural space — one that can be questioned, expanded and redesigned.
